Lee High School's Multimedia, STEM an Visual Performing Arts Program will be a developmental, rigorous 21st century technology model which promotes a college-ready, skill-based curriculum focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math); engagement in a student-centered learning environment, integrated with the Common Core Standards; and magnet-based student learning outcomes.
The primary goal of the program is to maintain an academic focus using technology as a tool to help students integrate technology into core subjects and other disciplines. Although elective classes will be offered which focuses on technology such as digital photography, radio and television broadcasting and graphic art design, the program is not designed to create technology "specialists" but rather, students who have mastered media-literacy skills and concepts and exposed to different technology formats to research and generate meaningful projects, especially in math and science.
Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) will be an integral component of Lee's magnet program in its new facility. Students will be offered a variety of courses including ballet, piano and other music classes. Students will be introduced to the historical background of different music genres and the musicians who transformed the culture of music for many generations.
The layout of the new Lee High School facility will be designed with the needs of the visual arts program in mind. Therefore, the VPA component of the program will be phased in when the new school is completed, which is scheduled for the Fall of 2015.
